Swan on the Wye is a 4.2% pale ale, hopped with Challenger and late hopped with Summit and Calypso. The hops have been selected to deliver light, floral notes, fitting with the feel-good, taste-good sensation of this cracking cask ale. Swan on the Wye isn’t shy about its hop character and has been described by a certain landlord as “the perfect summer ale”. The experience of our foremost pale ale is one of a tang of tropical fruit, citrus and even lychee on the nose, followed by a refreshing, grapefruit and tropical fruit flavour. Head Brewer Jimmy Swan works with the American Summit and Calypso hops relatively plentifully but certainly judiciously.
We tend to brew Swan on the Wye several times through Spring and Summer. It had its first outing at Beer on the Wye in 2016. Sometimes a new recipe really captures the taste buds, imaginations and hearts of drinkers and publicans and this pale ale is certainly one of them. Look out for Swan on the Wye as a guest ale at The Balance Inn in Luston, a charming and characterful rural pub.
