Swan Blonde

Swan Blonde

Herefordshire hopped blonde ale
Aroma:Subtle apricot, citrus
Hops:Challenger, Cascade, Ernest, Goldings
Grains:Wheat, Pale Maris Otter

In Spring around Herefordshire, perennial hops hurtle up the strings in the hop yards, adding vibrant green hues to the landscape.  It was this scene that first gave us inspiration for our fully Herefordshire hopped blonde ale.  Swan Blonde features four different locally grown hops: Challenger, Cascade, Ernest and Goldings.  The progress of the hops climbing up the strings is a real marker of the seasons in Herefordshire and Worcester with the trained eye recognising if the harvest is ahead or behind an average year by the height and bushiness of the hop bines.

Pale Maris Otter finest brewing malt delivers the inviting blonde hue of Swan Blonde, further suggesting a refreshing beer.  The hop character is delicate and gently lingering.  What stands out for us is the light honey, spicy notes from our Head Brewer’s favoured Goldings hops.  You’ll also detect subtle apricot notes and a touch of citrus hop aromas.  At 3.7% Swan Blonde is distinctly sessionable.

Swan Blonde is perfectly matched to the countryside pubs of Herefordshire: you can sit outside the Chase Inn in Bishops Frome, enjoying a pint of this blonde ale, just a short distance from where the hops are grown.  Or you might venture over to the Nags Head in Peterchurch and wash a fish and chip supper down with a pint of Swan Blonde.
