Nearly 50 years ago, the first manned moon landings took place in the Sea of Tranquility. Listening again to the 20th July 1969 recordings, we've now concluded that Neil Armstrong in fact proclaimed, "Swan Small Step for a brewer, Swan Giant Leap for brewing kind." Inspired by these words, we're brewing a pair of moon landings beers with these very names.
Swan Giant Leap is the stronger of our moon landings beers, with the 5.0% ABV also being a parallel of the 50 years of the anniversary. There are some aptly named hop varieties that we selected for this cosmic deep golden ale. Apollo launches the hop character, followed by grapefruit aroma from Comet and citrus notes from Flyer.
We work with many different hops at the brewery with the air filled with their delightful aromas, but even we had to stop and breathe in the heady, grapefruit notes of Comet. We left a basket of them in our tap room and several visitors remarked on their scent. The bottled version of Swan Giant Leap has taken off very well, so we are sure that this beer on draught will go like a rocket.
Join us to officially launch the two moon beers, to include sister-mission Swan Small Step, at the brewery on 5th July, 9am to 9pm, where there will be a wide selection of ales, local food, the Pearl Lake Ukulele Group playing from 7pm and a skittles competition during the afternoon.
